The short version

Sentiens is a place for voices, not profiles. We ask for an email address so you can come back, and nothing else about who you are. Other people know you only by your voice and the stars it draws.

  • Your talks are never recorded.
  • The short voice clips you send are deleted soon after they've done their job.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or run analytics that follow you.
  • Your voice is never transcribed or fed to AI.
  • You can delete your account at any time.

The rest of this page says exactly what we keep, why, and for how long.

Who we are

Sentiens is run by Hubert Zelek, a sole trader registered in Poland as Digital Creations - Hubert Zelek, ul. Sanocka 5/11, 37-700 Przemyśl, Poland, NIP 7952487987, REGON 522814572. In data protection law, that makes us the controller of your personal data.

Write to us about anything on this page at hello@sentiens.app. We answer within a month, usually much sooner.

Sentiens is for adults

You must be 18 or older to use Sentiens. We don't knowingly keep data about anyone younger. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.

What we keep, and why

Your account

  • Your email address and a password, so you can sign in and reset your password. We never show your email to anyone.
  • The language your app is in, so our emails reach you in English or Polish.
  • A random account number that links your data together inside Sentiens. Other people never see it.
  • The date you confirmed you're 18 or older and accepted the terms, and which version of the terms it was, so we can show you agreed. We keep it until you delete your account.

We never ask for your name, photo, birthday, phone number or location.

Your voice

  • The voice clips you send. When you speak to the sky or reply to someone, your clip (up to 15 seconds) is stored so the right person can hear it. Only the people it's served to can play it, through a link that expires after an hour.
  • When clips are deleted. A clip is deleted within an hour after it stops being used: when a talk starts from it, when a reply's journey ends, or when it never went out at all. If you take your voice down or sign out, you can send it again for 24 hours; after that it's deleted within the hour. No clip is kept more than 30 days, even one that's still out there.
  • Your stars. When you first join, the app listens to about five seconds of your voice on your phone and works out four numbers from it (how high, bright, warm and full it sounds). Those numbers draw your constellation. The recording itself never leaves your phone and isn't saved. We keep only the four numbers. People who hear your voice, talk with you or share an ember with you see your stars, never your account.
  • Your journal stays on your phone. We never receive it.

We never transcribe your voice, analyse what you say, use it to train AI, or use it to recognise who you are.

Your talks

  • The talk itself is never recorded. Live audio passes straight between the two of you through our call provider and is gone when the talk ends.
  • A record of each reply and talk: who replied to which voice, whether you both said yes, and when the talk started and ended. We need it to run the talk, keep its time limit and keep the free daily rhythm.
  • Which voices you skipped, so you don't hear them again, and which voices were shown to you, which we delete after 24 hours.
  • Tonight's intention (Deep, Easy or Just listen) and the vibe you picked for your voice.

After a talk

  • Thank-yous you give and receive (five fixed words, like "warm ears"). The person you thank sees the word, never who you are.
  • Your mood before and after a talk, if you share it. Only you see it.
  • The nights you came to the fire and your talk counts, for Your nights. Only you see them.
  • Embers, if you both choose to keep one: the pair, and the private name you give it. The other person sees the ember and whether you're here now, never the name you gave it.

Keeping people safe

  • Reports and blocks. When you report someone, we keep who reported whom, which voice or talk it was about, the reason you picked, and a note if you wrote one. A report always blocks both ways at once. The other person isn't told.
  • We keep reports for 12 months, then delete them.
  • When a child may be at risk. If a report or an email tells us about the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child, we keep what we know about it and pass it to the police or other authorities, and we keep it for as long as they need it, even after an account is deleted. More on our child safety page.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we keep your phone's notification token with our push provider so we can tell you when someone wants to talk, when the fire is lit, or when someone thanked you. Notifications carry no names, no voices and nothing you said. The token is removed when you sign out.

Crash reports

When the app crashes, it sends a crash report so we can fix it: what went wrong, the app version, your phone's model and Android version, and a random number Sentry makes up for this install, which isn't linked to your account. Before it leaves your phone, we strip out your account number, email, sign-in tokens and anything you recorded. There are no screen recordings and no tracking of what you do. Sentry keeps crash reports for up to 90 days.

Logs

Our providers keep short-lived technical logs, such as your IP address and when you signed in, to keep the service running and secure. They expire on their own after a few days.

Our website

sentiens.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no scripts. Our host sees your IP address to deliver the page, like any website.

Why we're allowed to

  • To give you Sentiens (your account, your voice, talks, thank-yous, embers, notifications): it's needed for our agreement with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • To keep people safe and the service secure (reports, blocks, logs, crash reports): our legitimate interest in a safe, working place for everyone (Article 6(1)(f)), and our legal duties for content people share (Article 6(1)(c), the Digital Services Act).
  • To protect children (reporting their sexual abuse or exploitation to the authorities, and keeping what they need): our legal duties where the law sets them (Article 6(1)(c)), and otherwise our legitimate interest, and the child's, in stopping that harm (Article 6(1)(f)).

You don't have to give us anything. Without an email address and your voice, though, Sentiens can't work.

Nothing about you is decided by a machine in a way that affects your rights. The app picks which voice you hear next from simple rules (your languages, what you've already heard), and that's all.

Who else handles your data

We use a few providers to run Sentiens. They process data only on our instructions, under a data processing agreement:

  • Supabase stores the database, your account and your voice clips, in Ireland (EU).
  • LiveKit relays live talks, through servers in the EU. It doesn't record them.
  • Google Firebase delivers notifications and hosts our website.
  • Resend sends our sign-in emails, from the EU, with no tracking.
  • Sentry receives crash reports, in the EU (Germany).

Some of these companies are based in the United States, so your data may be handled there. When that happens, it's protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Write to us for a copy.

We never sell your data, and we never share it with advertisers. We hand data to authorities only when the law requires it, or to report the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and everything linked to it: until you delete your account.
  • Voice clips: deleted within an hour after they stop being used (a voice you take down stays sendable for 24 hours, then goes within the hour), and never kept more than 30 days.
  • Which voices were shown to you: 24 hours.
  • Reports: 12 months. What we pass to the authorities to protect a child: as long as they need it.
  • Logs: a few days, by our providers.
  • Crash reports: up to 90 days, at Sentry.
  • Backups: copies of deleted data roll off within 30 days.

Deleting your account

Go to Settings → Delete account in the app, or follow sentiens.app/delete-account. Deleting removes your account, your voice clips, your stars, your talks, your thank-yous and your embers for good.

Three things stay. Reports other people made about you are kept for their 12 months, with your account removed from them. If a recent report said someone seemed under 18, and an account on either side of it is deleted, we keep a copy of that report and of the reported account (its email address and dates) so we can still act on it; unless we pass it to the authorities, it's deleted after 12 months. And your journal stays on your phone until you uninstall the app.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you the data we have about you and give you a copy,
  • correct it,
  • delete it,
  • limit what we do with it, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interests,
  • give you your data in a format you can take elsewhere.

Write to hello@sentiens.app from the email you signed up with. We'll answer within a month.

If you think we've handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Polish data protection authority, Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych (ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warszawa, uodo.gov.pl), or to the authority where you live. We'd like to hear from you first.

Changes

When this page changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies. You don't need to accept it again. The date at the top shows the latest version.
